Unfortunately due to the capacity of our venue and the logistics of Big Sur, we have only invited a limited number of guests. We hope you understand.
Unfortunately no. As hard of a decision this was for both of us, we ask that all kids are left behind at the cabin or at home with a sitter. Due to the venue, we have limited capacity and are only held to a maximum number of people. We hope you will understand and still will be able to join us for this beautiful celebration.
Big Sur is our happy place. It is where we have enjoyed our favorite camping adventures, where we got engaged, where we enjoy nature to the fullest, and where we go to unwind, reset and escape from the busyness of life. We are excited to share this extremely special and beautiful place with our friends and family. We hope you are able to take extra time to explore and take in all that Big Sur has to offer. " In every walk with nature, one receives far more than they seek." - John Muir
Henry Miller was a prolific writer known for breaking literary boundaries about consciousness, social norms, philosophical reflection, sex, and mysticism. The “library” that memorializes him is filled with art, Big Sur history, and towering redwoods. From the first time we walked through here, we both knew this was a special place. We felt a vibe. A vibe that was real and made us think whoa! A vibe that was welcoming, beautiful and peaceful. It made perfect sense. We hope our friendships are always welcoming, our lives are always peaceful and this day makes you appreciate the beauty in life a little bit (or a lot) more :) " I am just having a good time. And, I think this is a very important part of life - that people learn how to play, and that they make life a game, rather than a struggle for goals, don't you know." - Henry Miller
Short answer: No. Depending on your carrier there is some service in the main part of Big Sur and at Henry Miller Library but otherwise your phones will not work. Good news is Hwy 1 is the only main road so getting lost shouldn't be a problem. We suggest driving to Big Sur during the day. This will help you find your destination and allow you enjoy this epic California coastline. LOAD YOUR MAP WITH GPS BEFORE LOSING SERVICE. NORTHBOUND on Hwy 1 service ends after Cambria. SOUTHBOUND on Hwy 1 service ends after Carmel. Depending on where you are lodging, most places do have Wifi. However, please keep in mind it is not always good and connection can be risky.
As mentioned in the "accommodations" tab, Fernwood Resort is preferred. However, there are a lot of other options. We listed some of our favorites that are reasonably priced and close to the venue. BUT we want this to be more than just a one day wedding trip if possible. There are other great campgrounds, high end resort style stays and everything in between. If you need help figuring out where to stay please ask!
1. Research before your trip. Know and plan where you want to stop. Remember NO SERVICE. 2. Keep your eyes on the road. The highway is super windy, especially coming from the south. Use turnouts to pull over and take in the views. 3. Minimize waste and plan accordingly! Re-use and avoid single use items. Pack it in. Pack it out! 4. Respect the locals and other travelers. 5. Enjoy and take the time to truly take in the moment!
