Nope! Just yourself and your luggage. The island is car-free. You will park at the Fire Island Ferries terminal located at 99 Maple Ave. Bayshore, NY and your car will stay there for the duration of your trip. As you exit with your car to head home, you will use the self service machines to pay for your parking.
Yes! There is a small grocery store located right in Kismet along with 2 restaurants, a pizza shop, and an ice cream shop. There is another grocery store/liquor store which offers fresh and prepared foods located in the village of Saltaire, about a 10-15 minute walk. Feel free to pack a cooler with food/drinks and bring this on the ferry. If it’s a large rolling cooler, the ferry workers will place it in the cargo area and charge $8 cash (no additional charge on the way back home).
You can visit Fireislandferries.com to view the schedule. Your origin will be Bayshore and your destination will be Kismet (unless you’re staying at the Rudder-Foti house, then your destination will be Dunewood). Although you do not need to purchase tickets ahead of time, feel free to do so using the app “FI mTickets” or you can wait until day of. Tickets can also be purchased at the ferry terminal or aboard the boat with cash.
When we say Kismet is a quaint town, we’re not kidding! The ferry dock is located in the center of town, you can’t miss it. Everything is just steps away from each other! Although there are no “streets” or cars, the walkways do have names and you can easily navigate through the towns using Google maps.
One of our favorite things about Fire Island is how laid back it is. We hope this feeling translates to our wedding and we invite you to wear a dressy casual attire. The ceremony will take place on a concrete dock overlooking the bay, so it may be breezy.
