Please be aware that taking a taxi from inside the airport zone will be more expensive; this is due Federal Zoning regulations, which include increased taxes and airport fees for the Federal Zone Taxi drivers. These taxis are only allowed to transport clients out of the airport; they must return empty to the airport Federal Zone. If you are adventurous, you can walk some 150 yards to the pedestrian bridge over the highway, and cross to the other side to flag down a ‘normal’ taxi (there are some there already), this will save you about $5-10 USD. Taxi and minivan charge rates, are based on zones of travel. Taxis and minivans are paid for before entering the vehicle, at a small kiosk located just before leaving the building. You will be issued a pre-paid ticket at the kiosk and then, escorted or directed to your vehicle. The ticket is then handed to the parking attendant at the parking lot exit and then you are on your way.

Suggested Car Rental Companies: a) Avis b) Alamo c) National d) Hertz Beware of Multi-National car rental companies, they don't quote all mandatory insurance and fees on their websites and the final rate will double or even triple when you get to the counter to pay- and then go up another 20% when dropping off the car. The major corporate outlets are your best bet, as they are not "franchises" and the rate stated on the contract is what you pay with no surprises. Avis is right next to the airport and is well known for being a trusted car rental company, and even though their initial quote may be higher than other companies - the end rate will be around 30% less than you will pay using a car from companies located across the main drag from the airport such as Budget, Ace and Thrifty, whom all have bad reputations for hidden costs.

If you would like to go souvenir shopping, the Cuale Island and the Mercado Municipal (local market) are your best choices. However, please be aware that there are many big souvenir stores selling Mexican handcrafts that, in reality, are mass produced in china. Hence, we ask that you please support local artisans by buying only authentic Mexican produced products.

Yes, many places will take US dollars, however, be aware that larger bills can be harder for vendors to break so bring plenty of small bills. If you go on an adventure way out of the main tourist areas, it will be best that you bring enough pesos along. Banks give the best rate but require that you take in your passport, and there is a maximum limit of $300 USD per person per day. There are plenty of other exchange stations where you can trade US bills for Pesos. You can check the current exchange rate by clicking "View". Please remember that the exchange rate can vary suddenly, so the best thing to do is check it before buying or exchanging money.

Tips range from 15% to 20% of the total bill, according to your perception of the service received. Checks are only brought to your table upon request, as in the Mexican culture it is considered rude to do it before hand.

Driving in Puerto Vallarta is not as bad as most people make it out to be, you just have to know the rules before you attempt to travel. At intersections, the left turn lane is on the lateral road (the lanes on the right side of the highway) and on two lane highways a left signal light can indicate to the person behind to pass. Keep in mind they also may be taking a left hand turn, so pay attention as to what the driver ahead is telling you. If making a left turn on a two lane highway pull off to the right side of the road, wait for traffic to clear then make the left; you pretty much always have to make a right to make a left, which can be a pretty confusing factor. Parking in downtown Puerto Vallarta can be difficult to find, but they have recently opened an underground parking lot that always has space. The south side of Puerto Vallarta has a lot more parking.

Puerto Vallarta is a magnificent beach destination shelled by the second largest bay in the continent, the Bahía de Banderas, known for its abundance of marine life. To the east of Vallarta stands the majestic Sierra Madre, with mountains covered with tropical vegetation. The old Puerto Vallarta has its own architectural style, cobblestone streets and adobe houses topped with red roofs that highlight the elegance of the Mexican colonial style. The River Cuale, divides the town into north and south sections. On the southern end is the quaint Romantic Zone where the Playa los Muertos attracts sun worshippers to its golden sand and countless beach bars. Further south, the seaside villages of Boca de Tomatlán and Mismaloya. North of the river, the Old Town meanders uphill to the Gringo Gulch, and along the bay where you will find the Plaza de Armas (main square) and Los Arcos Amphitheater, where crowds are drawn by daily free performances.
