Our Story

From coworkers, to life partners...

באַשערט “Beshert” is a Yiddish word, often used in Jewish culture, meaning “meant to be”, “destiny”, or “intended”. It is also the word that perfectly encapsulates the love story of Alex and Jessica. Both Alex and Jessica were born and raised 15 minutes apart in beautiful San Diego, California. In the Jewish community, it’s commonplace to describe it as a “small world”, because it is truly hard to move through time, especially when in the same space, and not cross paths. Perhaps Alex and Jessica were not “meant to be” quite yet. 25 years later, Alex and Jessica both had achieved a Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology, each with a passion for communication, helping others, and leaving a positive impact on kids and families alike. Alex took his first year of employment in the San Diego Unified School District. While it was a fun, albeit stress-free environment, Alex knew he would benefit professionally from a career change into a more collaborative environment. Jessica had already found herself in this setting, working for an outpatient pediatric clinic, called “SmallTalk”. Beshert. After her first year, Jessica was pleasantly surprised when she had been given the role of being an “onboarding buddy” for a new-hire. And on July 12th, 2022, in walks Alex Maloney. For a few weeks, Alex and Jessica spent time together in work-related discussions, though they gradually started to transition to conversations about life, family, and values. Little did they know they had as much in common as they did, particularly when they found out they were both Jewish. Beshert. From that moment forward the colleagues became friends, and then friends became sweethearts. What started as a secret, charming romance, blossomed into a beautiful relationship filled with family, friends, travel, food, events, weddings, and Tuesday treats. Alex and Jessica had both expressed the powerfulness of their love, understanding that it had a real chance to be everlasting. Beshert. In June of 2024, Alex and Jessica took the next leap in their love journey when they moved in together into the cozy community of Civita Park in central San Diego. There, Alex got really good at cooking, Jessica got really good at pilates, and both Alex and Jessica got to spend even more time with their beautiful golden doodle, Poppy. Living together was so natural and easy for them, yet another reason to believe that their relationship was truly “meant to be”. Beshert. In the Winter of 2024, Alex and Jessica decided to go ring browsing together, because Alex knew that Jessica, the elegant, strong-willed, and ultimate achiever would know exactly what kind of diamond ring she would want. Alex liked that. They visited Jessica’s family jeweler. On that day, he presented Jessica and Alex with many options for diamonds, but it was the fourth one that was made and brought in from Israel, a place Alex and Jessica feel connected, just that day. Beshert. On April 19th, 2025, above the beautiful beaches of Del Mar, California in Seagrove Park, Alex proposed to Jessica with that very diamond ring with “Beshert” engraved within it, a moment that was then shared with their immediate families. There was then a celebration with more family and friends, a surprise to Jessica who loves surprises.. They then began picturing what their dream wedding day would look like. Something private and special, something that would take their breath away, and some place that would be the pinnacle of their love story. When they casually stepped into a stunning winery, their jaws dropped. Beshert. On Sunday, October 25th, 2026 at Monserate Winery in Fallbrook, CA, we will officially cement our love and entangle our souls together, forever, in front of our dearest family and friends. Words cannot express how excited we are to have this moment together, and to share it with everyone we hold so close. It will be the start of the rest of our life together, as “meant to be” as can be. Beshert.
