After 9 years together, we were engaged in a temezcal ceremony (like a Mexican sweat lodge) in Oaxaca city, Mexico on July 4, 2023.
In 2014. three of Aaron's close women friends created a dating profile for this humble man (something he would have never done). We're beyond grateful they did because Jessica ended up being his first and last online date! But ours was no whirlwind romance. Jessica messaged Aaron 3(!) times before he finally responded in June. But alas Aaron was leaving for several months to help his parents move from Ohio and then go with his friends to a dance program in Cuba. Despite having never met, throughout the summer, we sent photos of our adventures to each other. Then around Aug. 20th, we finally had our first date at the Trick Dog Bar & Restaurant in San Francisco. But it wasn't until our third date, a picnic on the beach in Alameda, that things started to heat up. It was here Jessica discovered that Aaron not only had his PhD in English (with a dissertation related to poetry and the environment), he did capoeira and played drums in Carnivale, he had done raptor rehabilitation, he was a fireman to put himself through Cornell. And this cutie was also an amazing kisser! She was intrigued. Aaron was drawn to Jessica's vivacious "multidimensional" spirit, spiritual perspectives, dedication to her community, and her bright smile. Jessica — raised in Oregon — was living in the East Bay at the time, and Aaron — originally from Ohio — in the Mission district of SF. If you're unfamiliar with the Bay Area, that's considered a "long-distance relationship" in these parts. So it wasn't until our first big trip in February 2015 to Yelapa, Mexico that we became an official item. Four years later, in 2019, we finally moved to Sonoma. The best decision ever! Despite pandemics, fires and more, our love and commitment really flourished while creating our home together. So, in July 2021, we became domestic partners with the state of California. And July 4, 2023, Aaron proposed to Jessica in a temezcal ceremony (kind of like a sweat lodge) in Oaxaca, Mexico - both were covered in Earth. It was followed by a bath together in a large tub filled with herbs and flowers. We wed on summer solstice 2025 in a funky 70s inspired celebration in Glen Ellen, CA, surrounded by our beloved community. Together, we enjoy curling up with British mystery series and our two kitties (Tallulah and Sir Alley-oop); camping; kayaking; floating; hotsprings; campout festivals; concerts; board games; music; dancing; traveling, trying new restaurants, and spending time with our community.
