We are launching a Middle Fork of the Salmon River Float Trip on June 14th. This is a 6-day float down the Middle Fork. You should plan to be in Stanley, ID on June 13th, trip departs June 14th and you complete the trip on June 19th. To book this trip you will need to contact us for more info. HIGHLY recommended... awesome trip, however I will not be on this trip myself, as I am running the big race (listed below).
For those super-early comers.... The River of No Return Endurance Run is in its... 6th year, Saturday June 15th. Races of 29k-53k-and 108k distance. The 29k is hike-able for those non-runners who feel two big climbs, for a total of 18+/- miles. The bride and a few family/friends will be running various distances on June 15th.
Day trips with our friends Peggy and Leigh Reddick at Salmon River Scenic Run. Float options include: short 2-3 hr floats, 1/2 day and full-day options--- as well as a more “whitewater” full-day experience, upon request. Fishing may be possible if the water level permits. Ph: 208-940-2257. They should give us a good group rate.
Jess's art show will be up, at the Mad Dog Gallery on Main St. Challis. We'll have a short opening for those interested on Thursday, June 20th.
Great restaurants, typically live music in the evenings (Go here for all things Stanley: https://stanleycc.org), shops, gorgeous views of the Sawtooths, hikes, floats, massages… Redfish Lodge boasts a great restaurant right on Redfish Lake. ( https://redfishlake.com )
An approximate 40 minute drive north from Challis. Then it’s about a 2-3 mile hike (4-6 mi. roundtrip), easy to moderate difficulty level depending on your fitness. This is not a flip-flop hike. You will travel through sagebrush and climb uphill a bit. Gorgeous view of the valley, from the mountains where you can sit in different hot spring pools. Worth the effort
Explore around Challis, Bayhorse Lake Mine, hikes, and beautiful drives and day trips. Check out the towns of Salmon or Stanley or Sun Valley. All within 1 hr - 2 hrs + drive from Challis. Salmon boasts a favorite of ours, The Oddfellows Bakery--riverguide of ours turned very talented baker. Sun Valley is great restaurants, shops and fancy things.
Local Micro-pub with yummy brews and Polish Dogs--and occasionally live music.
Tons of local hikes and picnic spots around Challis. The Land of the Yankee Fork museum is right outside of town and has the Lombard Trail hiking up and out of it. A great view of Challis and the Local "Buffalo Jump" site, are near one another at the junction of Rt-75 and 93 south of town.
