A small bustling grid. Eat tacos, drink mezcal and shop, all of Jess’ favorite things
Isla Marietas, a UNESCO world heritage site, consists of two uninhabited islands. Famous for its ecology, bird colonies, ocean wildlife and Lovers beach (hidden beach). To get to Lovers beach, you must swim / snorkel through a small tunnel during low tide. Only a number of visitors are allowed each day and you can book through all tourist companies in town.
We highly recommend visiting San Pancho! Nayarit’s best kept secret, San Pancho is a small but up and coming picturesque beach town 15 minutes away by Uber. Designated as the cultural heart of Nayarit, it’s filled with local merchants, artists and great places to eat. We recommend a half day to day trip here if you’d like to check out a different (and even more hippie) vibe.
A couple of towns over, Playa La Lancha is a secluded beach know for its surf. Rent a board and arrange lessons at WildMex HQ, and be sure to fuel up at Makai right next door (most amazing food). Note: the beach is only accessible through a 15 minute hike through the jungle - but so worth it on the other side! La Lancha 25 minutes by car/Uber. Shuttles can also be arranged through WildMex. Best beach IMO if you're looking to hunker down for a half day and catch great surf.
