Flight
There are 4 airports to get to Harkers Island: 1. New Bern (EWN) - 1 hour away 2. Jacksonville (OAJ) - 1 hour 45 minutes away 3. Wilmington (ILM) - 2.5 hours away 4. Raleigh-Durham (RDU) - 3 hours away No matter what airport you choose to fly into, please let Jess & Andrew know which airport so we can help with your transportation to the Island. We are asking people to fly into town Thursday 8/6 and leave Monday 8/10. We understand this may not be possible for everyone, so just let us know your plans and we will do what we can to help with those logistics.
Travel Note
We want everyone to experience the beauty of North Carolina during our wedding, making it a non-traditional event. We will be spending most of Saturday on islands that can only be accessed by boat. There will be drinking water, a bathroom, and some shade on the catamaran. While the boat does move slowly, if the water is rough, it could be a bumpy ride. We recommend anyone who may be prone to seasickness comes prepared with medication, seabands, etc. If anyone has concerns about being on a boat/beach for 5+ hours or accessibility getting on or off the boat, please let Jess or Andrew know so we can talk through alternate options.
Travel Note
Many of our activities over the weekend will be outside/on a beach, leaving us open to whatever Mother Nature may bring. The weather in this area can be unpredictable, but we've got our fingers crossed for a beautiful sunny day! That being said, the sun can be very intense here, so we strongly recommend coming prepared with sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, coverups, etc. especially for those with skin sensitive to the sun. In addition to the sun, other weather elements to be prepared for are humidity, wind, thunderstorms, and possible tropical storms/hurricanes. We're REALLY praying those last 2 won't be a factor, but there's always a chance.
Travel Note
Our day will start and end in the town of Beaufort. While this town is adorable and has that coastal southern charm we all love, it does have 1 major flaw: Parking. We are currently working to see what options we have, otherwise we need to rely on paid street parking around the area. You will want to park as close as possible to the dock where the catamaran will pick everyone up (600 Front Street). Hopefully there will be more to come on this shortly!
Travel Note
August is the peak of tourist season in the Outer Banks. Our events will be taking place on Harkers Island and in Beaufort. If you are staying in or between the Island and Beaufort, traffic will not be as much of an impact. We recommend giving yourself an extra 10 minutes when travelling to one of the events. If you are planning to stay in Morehead City or Atlantic Beach, these are the major tourist areas and traffic can be insane. We recommend giving yourself an extra 45 minutes to an hour if you are travelling to Beaufort or Harkers Island for an event.
