Cape Lookout Lighthouse
Take a ferry ride over to the light house to learn about it's history, walk the wooden paths, spend time on the beach - beaches on Back Sound and the Atlantic Ocean - or even climb the lighthouse for a spectacular view of the area! Public Beaches
If you want to take the Ferry (departs from Harkers Island), you can get off at the lighthouse beach or Shackleford Beach. The ferry allows you to explore these barrier islands that can only be reached by boat. In Atlantic Beach, there are several beach access points, such as New Bern Ave and Club Colony Dr. Be aware that August is the height of tourist season so these beaches will be busy and there will be a lot of traffic. If you're up for an adventure, you can continue down the coast to visit towns/beaches such as Emerald Isle, North Topsail Beach, and Surf City.
Shelling at Cape Point
On the Cape Lookout National Seashore, you can rent UTV's (2-4 people) and find some of the most pristine shells at Cape Point! It's best to go in the morning so you can be the first people to get the best shells. You can sign up through the link provided and you will need to book a time at the ferry to get there in time.
Fishing Charters
In Morehead City and Atlantic Beach there are dozens of fishing charters if you're looking to try out deep sea fishing. You can select trips based on half-day or full-day charters, type of water, or the type of fish you're looking to fish for (season dependent). Prices can greatly vary based on the number of people and what type of trip you want to do, but it's a fun option for those who haven't been deep sea fishing before.
