Things To Do

We're so excited to share this magical place with you! Be sure to check out the local shops, eat lots of gelato, and try the local food! Some of our favorite places along the coast are Sorrento and Capri. And we loved Rome too! If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to reach out!

Positano

SITA Bus is the local bus that runs along the Amalfi Coast. You can take this from Sorrento to Positano. For more information on where the bus goes, how to buy tickets, and the schedule, check out: https://www.positano.com/en/bus-schedule. From Positano, you can take the ferry to a few other places on the coast. We are not sure yet if all of the ferries will be running in October, as this is low season, but we will keep you updated as it gets closer. For more information, check out: https://www.positano.com/en/ferry-schedule. In Positano, be sure to explore the shops and restaurants. There is a sandy beach you can access. And there is a hike you can do called the Path of the Gods. For more information on the hike, check out: http://www.pathofgods.com/into-the-path/inside-the-path-of-the-gods/. Positano is built on a hill, so be ready to climb stairs to get from the beach to the hotels. From the beach to the villa, it is about 200 stairs. From the main road to the villa it's about 100.

Sorrento

I love Sorrento! You can take the Campania Express train from Naples (Napoli Piazza Garibaldi). It costs about 10 Euros and has guaranteed seating. Make sure to check the schedule though, as it only runs a few times a day (https://www.sorrentoinsider.com/en/campania-express-train-schedule). It's about a 45 minute ride. The Circumvesuviana is a local train that runs more frequently and costs even less (~3 Euros). This train gets very crowded though, does not have guaranteed seating, and makes more stops. For a more comfortable ride, I'd recommend the Campania Express, but this can be your fall-back (https://www.sorrentoinsider.com/en/naples-to-sorrento-train-schedule). You can buy tickets for both at Napoli Centrale station. Check out the shops and restaurants in town. And head to Grande Marina to eat fresh seafood by the sea. You can see most of Sorrento in one day, but you can also access other parts of the coast from here, like Capri and Pompeii, so you could use Sorrento as a base.

Capri

Also a MUST SEE!!! Capri is absolutely gorgeous. You can take a ferry to Capri from Positano or Sorrento. Be sure to explore the coral jewelry shops and the Blue Grotto! Check out this one-day itinerary to make sure that you don't miss anything in this magical place!

Pompei

A UNESCO World Heritage Site! It is very easy to get to Pompeii. You can take the Campania Express (https://www.sorrentoinsider.com/en/campania-express-train-schedule) or the Circumvesuviana train (https://www.sorrentoinsider.com/en/naples-to-sorrento-train-schedule) from Naples or Sorrento. This can be a day trip. You can book a tour or walk around on your own. Check out this website for more information on visiting Pompeii and the surrounding areas.

Amalfi

Amalfi is quite small, so you can make this a day trip from Positano or spend just one night here. You can also take the bus or a car to Ravello, which is just a 10 minute drive up the mountain. We've never been to Ravello, but we hear it is beautiful. Check out the main square with the Amalfi cathedral. Walk around the shops and have a bite to eat! There are some amazing handmade leather sandal shops in Amalfi. You choose the design and they custom fit the shoe right in the shop! I loved Sandali Bellogrado Amalfi. They had a huge selection of sandals with gems and coral and they were so kind. You can even get your initials carved into the leather sole. I'd highly recommend!

Rome

You can take the Leonardo Express train from the Airport Fiumicino to Rome's city center. You can buy tickets from machines at the station. You can get to Rome easily by train from Naples too (https://www.italiarail.com/pages/routes/rome-to-naples). It takes up to an hour and a half. Buy your tickets in advance for both, as it is much more expensive onboard. Carbonara is a MUST! One of our favorite restaurants is Trattoria da Teo (a local recommendation!). It gets busy here, so make a reservation in advance or expect to wait. There are a lot of great restaurants and bars in the Travestere neighborhood. The website below has some good tips on sites to see, including the Colosseum, Vatican, Spanish Steps, and Trevi Fountain. You can book tours to the Colosseum and the Vatican to skip the line and learn more about each site or you can book tickets to walk around on your own. Beware of pick-pockets! Keep your valuables close and do not leave your bags hanging on a chair while dining.
