Maymont

This 100-acre park estate is packed with historic buildings, beautiful gardens and native animals to discover. The extravagant Maymont Mansion, built in the 1880s and preserved in its original condition, is open for self-guided tours. The grounds include a number of attractive landscaped gardens, including Japanese and Italian gardens as well as an arboretum. The wildlife habitats house otters as well as creatures native to the James River and some of North America’s most impressive wildlife such as Bison, Black Bears and Sika Deer.

Children's Museum of Richmond

The museum has lots of fun exhibits that will keep them interested for hours while they play and learn. With play areas that mimic real-world locations including a farmyard, service station hospital and more they’ll have the chance to discover what interests them most and build real skills and a wider vocabulary. The Children’s Museum has two locations, one in Downtown and the other in Chesterfield.

Riverfront Canal Cruises

The waterway itself is steeped in history, its construction began in 1785 which makes it one of the United States’ earliest canals. The waterfront walkway is usually bustling with cyclists, tourists and locals out enjoying this scenic part of the city. Visitors will find some great restaurants and bars here as well as sculptures and public artworks.

Texas Beach

The leafy trails of Texas Beach offer some of the nicest hikes in the city. Situated on the North bank of the James River, the Texas Beach trails run for a couple of miles through forest and rocky river bank terrain. The area is also home to the Treasure Island Community Skatepark and has access points to the river. The large flat rocks in the area are the ideal place to take a picnic or sunbathe next to the gently flowing water. Texas Beach is definitely worth a visit during your time
