Jeremy and MacKenna met on Hip Hop night at El Camino restaurant in San Diego, CA for Vince Cagungun's 30th birthday party. MacKenna was invited by Coral, her dear childhood friend from Tahoe and Jeremy by Vince, one of his best friends since their junior year of high school. MacKenna was reluctant to attend because she was studying for grad school exams, but both Coral and Peggy (MacKenna’s mom) convinced her that she needed a break and deserved a night off. Jeremy’s eldest brother Gerric was first to meet MacKenna that night and suggested to Jeremy that he try to get to know MacKenna. Jeremy had attended the event with a date, but both Gerric and Vince made it clear to Jeremy that he was missing a great opportunity. MacKenna was immediately intrigued by Jeremy's energy and smile and in the meantime had asked Coral for the low down during a trip to the lady's room. They aren’t sure how and aren’t sure when, but Jeremy and MacKenna suddenly found themselves engaged in a deep and meaningful conversation later that night. Although everyone else recognized it before they did, the two of them were meant to meet that night. A small moment turned into hours and they couldn't stop smiling at each other. That night sparked what would become a strong and ever growing love for one another.

Jeremy and MacKenna embarked on their first camping trip together to a special place from her childhood out Blue Lakes Road. Jeremy had already asked Peggy and Jeff for their blessing the previous day, not knowing when or where, but wanting to wait for the perfect moment, that felt just right. After arriving and setting up camp, they were eager to get Maaza and Marley into the water to cool off so they threw on their suits and walked down the bank to the river. MacKenna and Maaza were downstream when she requested that Jeremy take a picture of her and the dogs together in the river. Jeremy looked out to his future bride with the picturesque backdrop and knew immediately that this was the moment he had been hoping for. Jeremy convinced MacKenna that he could get all of them in one shot if he got a towel to prop his phone up on a nearby rock. He really just needed a good excuse to retrieve the ring! When he returned, he set the phone to video and made his way to MacKenna with Marley in tow. She started a countdown, still thinking it was a timed photo. As she turned to retrieve Maaza, Jeremy stumbled in the sand, struggled to get the ring out of his pocket and finally made his way to one knee in the ice cold river. MacKenna turned to find Jeremy kneeling with a beautiful, sparkly ring held in the air. He said, "I have told you since day one that I was on team MacKenna and now I'm asking you to be my teammate for life. MacKenna, will you marry me?" In utter shock, MacKenna struggled to find her words so Jeremy just kept talking, naturally. Eventually MacKenna came to and said, "Wait I said yes right?! Yes, of course, 1,000x YES!" The two of them stood in the river taking it all in with the dogs by their side and later danced to their songs by the campfire. Without cell service, they were able to enjoy the moment to themselves and continue the celebration with Corbi and Jordan when they arrived later that evening. It was truly the perfect proposal!
