Jeremy moved to Vancouver in August of 2020 to begin his plumbing apprenticeship. Jessica, a born-and-raised Vancouverite, had just finished university and was diving into the world of accounting — both school and career. It was the height of the pandemic. The city was shut down, social circles were tight, and meeting new people felt nearly impossible. So, like many others they turned to the world of online dating and downloaded Hinge. Somewhere in the endless swiping, they found each other. What caught their attention? Their mutual love for the Toronto Raptors — a bond strong enough to make them both pause and think, maybe this is something. The first date was set for a rainy Sunday afternoon in November — a walk along the Kitsilano Beach seawall. Jeremy hated the idea. Jessica, hungover and slightly paranoid that she might be meeting a murderer, insisted on it anyway. Prior to meeting, Jessica boldly told her friends, “This guy is going to be my boyfriend.” (Spoiler alert: she was right.) Jeremy on the other hand strongly disliked the idea of the date. Walking? In the rain? With a stranger? No thanks. But he agreed — because she's cute. And when they met… they felt nothing. No fireworks. No rom-com moment. No love at first sight. But, they did enjoy talking to each other. Enough that one date led to another. And another. Slowly, something real started to build — something steady, grounded, and genuine. Turns out, sparks are overrated. What they found was a connection that grew stronger over time — built on laughter, long walks, Raptors games, and shared dreams. Love doesn’t always start with butterflies. Sometimes it starts with a rainy walk, a skeptical plumber, and a hungover accountant who swore she’d never meet someone off the internet. And now? They're so glad they both swiped right.
