Amazing hiking trails, wildlife viewing, and remote beaches. Did you know Pt. Reyes NAtional Seashore hosts over 50% of North America's bird species at some point in the year. No wonder Ian wanted to get married here! There's a lot to see and do here so we recommend starting at the Visitor Center just outside Pt. Reyes Station. The Tomales Point and McClures Beach hikes are two of our favorites. You will see wildlife and wildflowers galore! Lots of great hikes are listed on AllTrails so that is a great resource as well. West Marin is world renowned for its dairy farms and creameries. In fact, Straus Home Ranch (our wedding venue) is a working creamery! The cheeses from this region are incredible and there are lots of places to sample and try some. Cow girl creamery is one of our favorites, but there are lots to discover.
While Marin county's chilly waters may not be the most welcoming place to learn to surf, there's no shortage of great waves. Two beaches to check out are Dillon Beach and Salmon Creek - you might just see the groom out there on Saturday. Watch out for the men in grey suits!
Tomales Bay is known for some of the best oysters on the west coast. Just south of our wedding venue is the Hog Island Oyster Company, which is a great spot for a fun lunch. Don't worry if you can't find the time- we'll be eating plenty of oysters on Friday and Saturday night as well!
Jenny and Ian did this ride way back when and it was one of the memories that helped them decide to get married in this area! Rent a road bike and make the 34 mile loop from Pt. Reyes Station. Overcoming the 'Marshall Wall' isn't for the faint of heart, but the view from the top rewards those who are willing! Black Mountain Cycles is a great local bike shop for those who are looking to rent.
Although the West Marin coast isn't in the heart of wine country, it shouldn't be too hard to find some of Northern California's finest vintages. Check out Sonoma Coast Vineyards in Bodega for a super cool tasting room right on the coast!
Grab lunch at Tony's Seafood, a great restaurant on the water in Marshall.
Lunch at the Marshall store is a classic Tomales Bay experience- one of our favorites!
