Things To Do

Flagstaff offers easy access to so many beautiful places. We have included some special places to visit and fun activities to do surrounding our wedding weekend. Did you know Flagstaff is home to the largest ponderosa pine forest in the world, the tallest peak, and one of the best-preserved meteor impacts in the world? Read on for some of our favorite things to do and see.

Grand Canyon National Park

AZ

Wupatki National Monument

Flagstaff, AZ 86004

Nestled between the Painted Desert and ponderosa highlands of northern Arizona Wupatki seems like an unlikely landscape for a thriving community. In the early 1100s during a time period of cooler temperatures and wetter seasons the ancestors of contemporary Pueblo communities created a bustling center of trade and culture. For Hopi people these sites represent the footprints of their ancestors. Fun fact: Caleb and Jenny's home in Flagstaff was inspired by the Wukoki pueblo at Wupatki. It's multi-level, cubic structure with a south-facing terrace are all elements of their house their overlooks town near Lowell Observatory. Wupatki is very close to our wedding and camping site so don't pass this one up!

Lowell Observatory

Meteor Crater Natural Landmark

AZ 86047

Meteor Crater is a meteorite impact crater about 37 mi east of Flagstaff and 18 mi west of Winslow in the desert of northern Arizona, United States. It is the best preserved Meteor Crater impact site on Earth. The site had several earlier names, and fragments of the meteorite are officially called the Canyon Diablo Meteorite, after the adjacent Cañon Diablo

Walnut Canyon National Monument

3 Walnut Canyon Road, Flagstaff, AZ 86004

Along the trails you can imagine life within Walnut Canyon, while visiting actual pueblos and walking in the steps of those who came before. The one mile round-trip Island Trail provides access to 25 cliff dwellings.

Bearizona Wildlife Park

1500 East Route 66, Williams, AZ 86046

Bearizona is approximately 160 acres. Visitors will drive through more than three miles of Ponderosa Pine Forest, viewing North American animals in natural habitats when they visit. More animals are exhibited in Fort Bearizona, a beautiful 20-acre walk-thru area, along winding paths which is more of a “zoo” typesetting.
