This is one of our favorite quick hikes! For those staying at Bald Mountain Camps, it is a two minute walk to the trailhead. Make sure to climb the look-out tower! BALD MOUNTAIN TRAIL: Enter the trail .8 miles south of Oquossoc off Route 4, on Bald Mountain Road (opposite Bald Mountain Camps). Distance to summit: 1.75 miles. A 30′ look-out tower at the summit offers a spectacular, 360 degree view of the surrounding mountains and lakes. A great hike for all ages! Picnic tables are located at the top of the trail. Dogs are also able to use this trail!
We recommend picking up a sandwich from the Oquossoc Grocery to eat at the summit! AZISCOHOS MOUNTAIN TRAIL: This trail, located in Lincoln Plantation, offers some of the finest lake views in the state. Enter the trail on Route 16, 17.7 miles west of Rangeley and 100 yards south of the Magalloway Bridge at the foot of the Azicohos Dam. The ascent is easy through the woods on Firewarden’s Trail. Aziscohos North Trail is a 3.2 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail and is rated as moderate. Dogs are also able to use this trail.
