FAQs

The Wedding Website of Jennifer Lee and Lam Nguyen
Question

Why are there 3 events?

Answer

We are blessed to have family and friends all over the world and wanted to celebrate with the people who mean the most to us. Jenn's family is in Taiwan and her 85 year old grandmother is thrilled to attend the first wedding of her grandchildren. Lam's family is in Seattle. Instead of having our family travel to us, we are going to them. We also wanted a western style wedding to make our own. It has been Lam's long held wish to walk down the aisle. 😅

Question

Is is necessary to attend all 3 events?

Answer

No! We wanted to go to people, not have them come to us. Please attend the ceremony that is most convenient for you.

Question

Can guests attend more than 1 event?

Answer

Of course! While completely unnecessary, if you choose to attend more than 1 event, we would love to spend more time drinking with you.

Question

Are you getting married 3 times?

Answer

To the same person, yes. Legally, no. We wanted to honor the traditions of our cultures and pay the proper respects to our families. The Taiwan reception is a Taiwanese style dinner reception. The event will mostly be conducted in Mandarin and hosted by Jenn's family. The Seattle reception is a Vietnamese style dinner reception. The event will mostly be conducted in Vietnamese and hosted by Lam's family. The Bay Area reception will be western style: the whole walk down the aisle, vow declaration, cocktails, and dinner reception.

Question

What should I expect from the cultural receptions?

Answer

Both Taiwanese and Vietnamese wedding receptions are traditionally just dinners. Our cultures come from humble backgrounds and weddings were a rare chance for everyone to come together to feast (especially back in our grandparents' days, when food was hard to come by). Our modern day cultural receptions will reflect our simple traditions. Taiwanese reception include: - Chinese Wedding Door Games - Traditional Taiwanese multi-course dinner - TBD Tea Ceremony. Jenn's dad refuses to participate in a traditional tea ceremony, where the children kneel before their parents and present tea to thank them for raising them. Jenn suspects her dad doesn't want to give her away. Vietnamese reception: - Family style dinner at a modern BBQ house that blends Vietnamese and American flavors. - Toasts and speeches. - Family members will be invited to a family prayer at Lam's house prior to dinner. More information will be linked in the Travel section.
