A long time ago, in the faraway city of Los Angeles, there lived a bear, who we will call Jason, and a girl, who we shall call Jenn. Like many who called the city their home, these two went about their days, neither really knowing about the other. They were just two souls wandering in a city of a thousand. Now many moons before, a man had built a land of magic, and childlike innocence, it was a place of wonder and happiness unmatched by any in all of the land. Unbeknownst to either the girl or the bear for that matter, they both loved this magical land and had frequented it many times before. Perhaps they had even passed each other there, like two ships passing in a storm, knowing the other is there but never really acknowledging them. And so this went day in and day out. It could have very well been the end of the story, but this year was an auspicious one. For this was the year of the grand leap. An event that happens once every four years. The girl and the bear, both being frequent visitors of the magical lands, had heard of an event, for those seeking others, that would take place on the very day of the leap. It was to be hosted at their favorite magical land. Little did they know it, but their lives would soon change forever…. The event was a fair of sorts. A place where folks could gather and mingle with one another. You know the type, the one you go to and find yourself in idle chit-chat about the weather or your favorite childhood memory. But fate it seems is not without a sense of humor. And so the bear and the girl found themselves in a competition, a game of wits where one must guess the clue on their back. The catch, you must ask another in the room for a clue. And so the bear and the girl played the game. Neither thought much of it, until the moment, the girl was face to face with the bear. There she stood gazing up at the bear, her hair fire red and full of curls, and as he towered over her she knew then, though she dare not admit it to herself, that she wanted to learn more about him. So she smiled at him. Now the bear, being rather aloof, as most bears are, looked down at the smiling girl, her red curls dancing in the wind, and simply said hello. They rather quickly exchanged their clues and went on playing the game. Time raced on as it always does, and the game would lead to adventures throughout the land, yet the bear and the girl, would not meet up again, and our story would have ended here but this was an auspicious day and we were in a magical land after all. As the event drew to an end, fate and a bit of magic would step in. At the final adventure of the evening, the bear found himself without a group to enjoy the adventure with. That is when a fairy godmother stepped in. Don't forget this is a magical land after all. The fairy godmother took the bear and brought him to her group, or so she said. It just happened to be the group with the girl in it. And once more the girl and the bear found themselves face to face. This time there were no games to play, they found themselves together in a sea of people, waiting to go on one more adventure as part of the event. Not wanting to seem rude, the bear started talking to the girl, and the girl smiled and spoke with the bear. On and on they talked, as the sun gave way to the moon and the clock struck twelve, the evening came to a close. The bear escorted the girl back to their cars, and the two lingered for a bit longer, clearly not wanting the evening to end, but alas it had to. And so on the 29th day, the leap day, in the two thousandths twentieth year a bear, and a girl met, and many moons later would fall in love. They say if you go to the magical lands, you might just catch a glimpse of a bear, and a girl, smiling and laughing, like when the world was young and innocent.
