How safe is it to walk around in Portland?

As anyone who's been paying attention to national news knows, Portland has had one of the biggest struggles recovering it's vibrancy and safety since the COVID pandemic. There is a sizable homeless/houseless population living on the streets of our city. The biggest considerations around this for the wedding celebration are issues of safety and security. We advise anyone in Portland not to leave any valuables of any kind in a car, ever. Any bags are a potential target - just take them with you. Unfortunately, we also advise folks to avoid walking alone after dark, to err on the side of caution. Please take care of each other and walk with a partner or group later in the evening.
