You can officially add us into your count of couples getting married that met off social media. But we hope that we are you first and maybe only couple that met off of Facebook Dating... yes, you read that right Facebook Dating. When Facebook decided to expand its offerings and dipped its toe into the dating world with Facebook Dating in September of 2019, we both joined on a whim in October 2019. In a short few days, we matched with each other and began to text and get to know eachother. Our first date was about a week later after Jenna asked for assistance replacing her bumper on her Jeep. It was a Jeep-centered evening with a side of local pizza and from there, we never really left each other's side. Together we split the commute back and forth with Ron driving to Fairfield and Jenna driving to Portland. Both of us growing to hate the Merrit Parkway and the time it would add to our commutes the entire time. A few months after COVID hit and Jenna started to work from home, living apart just didn't make sense anymore and we had talked about moving in together in Portland where Ron lived. So in true Jenna fashion, she packed up a Uhaul and moved in... a month earlier than discussed and in the middle of the complete ripout of the only bathroom in the house. From there, the rest is history, but after making it through COVID, reconstructing the entire inside of the house, some changes in jobs, a 2 year relocation to Philadelphia for Jenna (and her 220 sq ft studio), and the general stresses of life, we knew that together we could make it through anything. Ron proposed to Jenna on September 3rd, 2022 in Dennisport, MA on the point dedicated to Ron's great-grandmother, Gladys surrounded by our family under the guise of a dinner for Jenna’s moms, Cheryl Rothermel, birthday with help from her sister Lauren Rothermel. His great-grandparents spent many days sitting on this point watching the waves and the Pickering family has many fond memories of enjoying the ocean from this point. This spot also happened to be a 5-minute walk from the Cape house of Jenna's aunt and uncle, Joe and Val Bonkowksi, and just down the beach from where her cousin Kristen was married to Mike in 2023. After enjoying a long and loving engagement, we are excited to celebrate with our family and friends on October 19, 2024.
