In the spring of 2018, Jenna was sitting in the dining room of the Sigma Kappa house scrolling through Tinder when she came across a cute boy with some artsy photos and some cool tattoos. Naturally, she swiped right. "It's a match!" her phone lit up. They had been messaging back and forth about classic rock, cross country road trips, and snowboarding when Derek finally asked her out on a date. She said no, because Tinder dates had rarely gone well in her experience, but they kept talking. A few more days passed by and Jenna found out that and Derek went to Maryville High School. So of course, she immediately texted her sorority sister who had also gone to Maryville for a background check. She was sitting in HRT 310 with her friend Jaclyn when she got a response from her sorority sister. The verdict: he was a really nice guy with no blaring red flags. As if he read her mind, Derek asked her out again. "Should I go?" Jenna whispered to Jaclyn during their Hospitality Lecture. "He's cute!! Why the heck not?!" Jaclyn nudged her. So she said yes to meeting him at Honeybee Coffee after class. She was completely unprepared for a date, wearing a big t-shirt, leggings, no makeup and hardly brushed hair, but she only had time to ride the bus back home before hopping in her car and driving downtown. Of course, the place was packed. The teeny parking lot had virtually no spaces, and anyone who knows Jen knows she's no precision driver. While Jen did a 15 point turn trying to get into a spot that probably wasn't even a spot, Derek was sitting in his car laughing his ass off because he just knew that was his date. Cut to at least 10 minutes later, Jen watched as Derek hopped out of his old 4runner and then was immediately taken aback by the deep as hell east TN accent that fell out of his mouth when he said "hey." Their coffee date turned into a dinner date, then a late night run to Ijams. What would've been a quick 1 hour date, became a 7 hour excursion.
