Anniversary Party

10.10.2021, 4:30 p.m.

Join us for an epic anniversary party at the Barn at Sunset Ranch! We are grateful to have shared our vows with each other last year with Mount Princeton as our witness. Now - the celebration! The way we think of marriage is that we choose each other as life partners every day, so we don't feel the need to re-new vows -- we are, however, going to dress up in our wedding gear for the party, so come ready to eat, drink & boogie!

We got hitched!

10.11.2020

To honor our love for our family and friends through actions, we postponed our community celebration of love for each other. Please be joyous that we have found our “person” to love and to journey together through our lives. Take this opportunity to honor your own “people” (e.g. family, friends, community and furry wannabes) by maintaining your health and safety. We’re excited to celebrate with you post COVID-19 vaccination (herd immunity for fellow public health nerds), on our rescheduled date of 10.10.2021 at the Barn, for an EPIC anniversary party! Love and miss you all, Jenna & Brian

Prologue

"person of interest"

Jenna & Brian were both nurses at "The Burb," an affectionate name for a short-staffed hospital, which happened to also have the closest, best nurses on the block. Brian worked day shift and Jenna nights on the same unit, often sharing patients. Through shift reports over the course of 8 months, they not only developed a respect for each others' nursing expertise but also found that we shared common interests: hiking, snow sports, climbing, & boozy brunches. Jenna caught Brian's eye along the way. Sal, a mutual friend & co-worker, jumped on board to play matchmaker. Several group adventures later, Jenna shared with friends & family that Brian was a "person of interest" - a term that now has become a long-running joke.

"a scar, a hatchet, & tacos"

Brian invited Jenna out on a hiking adventure to a new state park, Staunton. Within the first 500 feet, Jenna already tripped over her own two feet, skinning her leg & bleeding fairly profusely. Jenna assured Brian that this was a typical day in her clumsy life and they should journey onward. Brian did-- in his t-shirt through the snow, breaking a hatchet out of his pack when encountering signs of a mountain lion, and forging through the 7 miles without any clear trail signs in this new park (as a state park ranger stated when they asked for directions: It's not hiking unless you're lost!" Despite it all, or perhaps because of it, they made it out in great spirits, happy with their adventure & conversation. Jenna, quite hungry, asked Brian to join her for tacos & cocktails at Dos Santos, mid-way through dinner finally realizing this was a date. They truly did get a great glimpse of a future with each other on their first date! The rest folks, is history.

"family adventures"

Check out our photo section to see our family adventures with Nova, our 100 lb newfie-mix neurotic princess fur-baby, our family, friends, & travels. We have especially loved traveling to cities across the US to celebrate and hang out with our friends across life milestones; discovering other countries scuba diving, volcano hiking, & cultural immersion; heading off the grid backpacking, hiking, fishing, rafting; enjoying city life in Denver with brunches, dinners, breweries, plays, sports games, and home life playing with our nieces & nephews, enjoying home life with game nights, bonfires, cooking, holiday festivities, gardening, & giving Nova belly pets on our back porch.

"sunset proposal"

I knew Jenna was the one for me long before I proposed. I asked her parents for their blessing around Xmas time and notified my parents as well. Both sets of the older generation couples were so excited that they imparted rings to me (Jenna's Nana & my mom). I was in quite the pickle. I decided to custom make Jenna a ring using a family friend and expert in Colo Sprgs, CO. This process turned out to be perfect with the most beautiful ring I have ever seen, but the process was not speedy. 6 months later I had the ring in my pocket and needed not to lose it. We had been planning a backpacking trip to Idaho, in the Sawtooth mountain. I hid the ring in my fishing rod case. Before we were dirty, tired, and starving I proposed on the first evening of our 7 days in the wilderness at sunset. Jenna was so unaware that she went on preparing dinner while I set up a go-pro to take pictures. After I pried her away from the jetboiler she was overwhelmed with exuberance. We enjoyed celebrating the "yes" with each other for the next month!
