On a steamy summer evening at JFK airport in 2008, Jen boarded a JetBlue plane bound for San Fransisco with a container of apples in hand. Fate struck, and the plane was grounded on the tarmac due to weather for over five hours. She noticed her seatmate, Mike, eyeing her food and offered him some. For the rest of the six-hour flight, the two didn't shut up. They shared a cab into San Fransisco, exchanged numbers, and met up a couple weeks later once they were both back in NYC. The rest is history (literally ten years of it)! Special thanks to Jeff Buan who was traveling with Jen at the time and encouraged her to pursue Mike. *Jen still has her original ticket from the trip!*
In July of 2018, Jen hatched an idea to illustrate a book of inside jokes the two shared. As she started writing it, she realized it was the perfect way to propose. It captured their relationship in a way that nothing else could. After finishing their nightly NYT crossword puzzle, Jen reached over to her nightstand and pulled out the book for Mike to read. Before he got to the end of the book with the actual proposal, Mike was already in tears. Their cat, Kierkee, was very confused.
