As many of you know, Jenay can be quite perceptive and difficult to surprise. Knowing this, Matt knew he had to plan the proposal carefully so he could fly under the radar. What better day to pop the question than on a day that was suspect for an entirely different reason: her 30th birthday. Matt knew he could easily mask pre-proposal jitters and suspicious-sounding plans under the cover of "birthday plans." Jenay knew Matt had planned some birthday surprises, but she had no clue that he had a ring in his pocket. Her birthday fell on a Saturday, so Matt planned a quick trip to the farmers market in downtown Sarasota to pick up coffee, empanadas (her favorite), and a bouquet of sunflowers. From there, they went over to Bayfront Park and had a picnic in the shade by the water. After they finished eating, Matt pulled out a deck of cards and began to set up their favorite card game on the blanket. Jenay and Matt have been known to bring a deck of cards with them everywhere they go, so this didn't seem like a strange thing for him to do. What Jenay didn't know was that Matt had planned something very special for this particular game. To begin this game, the cards are dealt face-down, and each player takes turns flipping them over. As Jenay began to flip her cards over one-by-one, she noticed her cards contained a message. She quickly realized THE question had been "popped." After a brief conversation to profess his love, Matt presented a ring, Jenay said "yes!," and the ring was placed on her finger.
