How We Met

One night in downtown Brookings,

Jeannie was downtown at a bar called Jim's Tap. This was a regular haunt for her and her friends, especially on Thursdays, as it was International Night. With a different country featured every week and a chance at winning raffle prizes it was a popular special. Brent had also decided to head to Jim's Tap that night. He had been working 12 hour days, five days a week for three months and it was finally the first Friday he had off since summer started. He found a seat at the bar and chatted with the bartenders, whom he had known for quite some time. Before long he was greeted by another friend who had come up to the bar to order. This friend introduced Brent to the person accompanying him, Jeannie. Admittedly, she was immediately enamored with him and they sat and talked for most of the night. That was September 15th, 2016, Brent's 28th birthday.

Proposal

We Don't Really Do Fancy

Now this story needs to be prefaced a little. It all started when Jeannie broke the oven. In an attempt to roast chicken in a ceramic crockpot, disaster struck when the dishware split right in half and spilled the chicken soaked water everywhere...including inside the oven. With the insulation soaked and starting to smell after a couple of days they needed a new one. It was tax season and Brent and Jeannie were just about to get their returns. On pick up day they were a little blind-sided when they were told the full amount needed to be paid off for them to take it home. Originally Brent and Jeannie had planned to split the payment but Brent told her he had just made an extra payment towards his car and wouldn't be able to help until his next paycheck. A while after this Jeannie had had a long day at work and Brent suggested having pork loins on the grill for dinner. He cooked the meat and Jeannie prepared the side and they enjoyed the meal and caught up with each others days. After cleaning up they sat on the couch together, Jeannie resting her head on his shoulder. "Babe, I need to tell you something. I may have told you a fib." Brent said. Fibs in this household are silly, obvious things, fibs are not even white lies, just something to giggle at together. "Oh?" said Jeannie a smile in her voice. "Actually I may have told you a lie." This caught Jeannie's attention and she sat up to look at Brent. "What?" Why would he lie? It had to be something serious. What did he lie about? All those thoughts ran in quick succession around her head. "I told you I made an extra payment towards my car. I didn't." He paused and put his hand in his pocket. "I got this instead." He pulled out the ring box and it all clicked for Jeannie. She covered her mouth with her hands and started to cry. "We don't do big, fancy, and showy. We do happy little days. I want to have more happy little days with you." Jeannie hugged him, crying more. "Is that a yes?" Brent asked? "That's a yes!"
