Explore the New River by tube, kayak or canoe. They will provide transportation. Watch the weather forecast so you are not caught in a thunderstorm on the river!
You can drive up to the overlooks, or go on a hike or a picnic.
A really good museum with a miniature village, a train display, lots of antiques, an old schoolroom, an old homestead cabin, and an interesting exhibit about the historic Ore Knob Mine in Laurel Springs.
Come see cheese being made, and visit the shop for old-fashioned candy, local wines, jams and jellies, fudge, and of course lots of Ashe County cheese!
Here is a pretty place on the river to swim, picnic, or just enjoy the scenery.
Nothing beats the scenery and vistas on the Blue Ridge Parkway. You can access it right near the Doughton-Hall Bed and Breakfast and visit Doughton Park and the Bluffs Restaurant. Pull over at a scenic overlook and take pictures! Some parts of the Parkway are currently closed due to bridge and road construction, so look at the their website to see status.
We have not been here yet, but if you are staying close to Lansing, you can order take-out pizza from Pie on the Mountain, and then visit Molly Chomper for a cider. You also can order snacks there.
If you would like to walk on a flat paved trail along a mountain creek, this park in Lansing is ideal. There is a dog park, seating areas, lots of nice landscaping.
