The Beginning

A Day in May

In May 2018, both Jazzy and Matt were invited by a mutual friend to their graduation mixer in Tarrytown, NY. They spent an hour talking to each other about interests, life, and how we both ended up at this event, seeing that they both only knew one person there. However this was just the prelude to the actual story because Matt was living in CT and Jazzy in Queens, NY at the time.

Just Friends

Friendship with and without COVID

For the next 3 years we find our soon-to-be couple in completely different situations of life. Matt had moved to Brooklyn and Jazzy had already been living in Queens. Suddenly our eventual couple was living in the same city. From casual dinners, to nights out at a bar, costume parties, long car rides to breweries- the 2 always hung out in group settings but just as friends. COVID hit and just like a lot of the world, these friends turned to technology for their socializing. Jazzy and Matt were both working fully remote and continued to interact on Discord and monthly group Zoom calls. (Organized by Jazzy to keep everyone sane.) As COVID finally began to sunset its presence in NYC, our couple finally starts to become just that- a couple.

Friends to More than Friends

Is this a date?

In February of 2021 Matt and Jazzy were invited to a Casino Night at a mutual friends place. This is where after a night of dancing and a little liquid courage, Matt said, "We should go get dinner." Jazzy said yes, of course! And a restaurant and date were set. But she was under the impression that this was another group event. After a few days, she asked around and realized she was the only one invited. Not sure what to do, she decided to test the waters of what this meant. She texted Matt, "Hey! I have been pretty strapped for money. Not sure if I can afford going out to dinner Friday." (She was NOT actually strapped for cash.) Matt immediately replied, "Don't worry. You weren't going to pay anyway." This was definitely a date.

The Engagement

3 Years of Adventure

Flash forward 3 years later to 2024 and our couple have become well seasoned travelers. They decided to plan a trip to Mexico for their 3 year anniversary, including zip lining, ATVs, swimming in rivers and lots of amazing food. On the very last day in the privacy of their rooms balcony Matt asked Jazzy to get dressed so they could take some last minute pictures. He set up a camera and said, "Let's pose like Titanic." Jazzy laughed, turned around and spread her arms but Matt didn't grab her waist. Without turning around, she said, "Hello?! Don't let go Jack!" but there was no answer. Jazzy turned around and Matt was down on one knee.
