How they met

2017 to now!

Jayme and Lars first crossed paths at Montana State University as starry-eyed freshman. Encounters in the dining halls, on outdoor trips, and at the occasional house party an early friendship began to grow. Toward the end of that first year, Lars mentioned that Camp Emerald Bay on Catalina Island was hiring for the summer. When he asked if anyone wanted to join, Jayme was eager to spend a summer on the ocean. As a camp counselor, she guided overnight biking, hiking, and canoeing trips, while Lars completed his sixth and final season as an Emerald Bay staff member. The days passed quickly working beneath the island sun. Their second year at Montana State brought new and exciting experiences. Jayme moved off campus with several friends, while Lars started a position as a campus Resident Advisor. The two continued to grow their friendship through frequent climbing trips to Allenspur, Bear Canyon, and Revenue Flats. That winter Lars was finally a competent skier, enough to follow Jayme up the Bridger Ridge and over to Schlasman’s, where she further impressed him as a skier and all-around outdoor adventurer. At this time, Jayme and Lars ran in overlapping friend groups — in true Bozeman fashion — and shared countless wild memories: Tour de Franzia, Fourth of July fireworks, birthday parties, and endless outdoor adventures. It wasn’t until the fall of 2020 that Jayme and Lars officially started dating. Their first “date” was a local mountain bike ride up Leverich Canyon, soon followed by a few trips in Lars’s bright yellow camper van. About a month into dating, and an extended break for the holiday season - thanks to COVID - the two decided to embark on a western states road trip. Visiting nearly all of their immediate family and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. The trip lasted two weeks, starting in Bozeman and winding through Nevada to Northern California to visit Sharon and Tim in Sierraville, the Dyc-O’Neil clan in Santa Cruz, and then down south to see the Heinstedt's and Lars' high school friends for Thanksgiving. From there, they cruised through Moab for a quick bike ride and overnight in the desert cliffs before spending a few nights at Jayme’s childhood home in Fairplay, Colorado. By the time they returned to Bozeman, their love deepened — a bond that continued to grow over the next few years. Onto the next few years, Lars graduated in 2021 with a B.S. in Environmental Science and began working in the remediation field, currently with AJM Inc., performing soil and groundwater remediation throughout Montana. Jayme graduated in 2022 with a B.S. in Nutrition (pre-med) and began working at a private health clinic — gaining medical experience before applying to Physician Assistant programs. In the fall of 2024, about four years into their relationship, Jayme was accepted into one of her top-choice PA programs at Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Montana. To celebrate, the couple planned a trip abroad to Europe, visiting major cities including Paris, Zurich, Milan, Florence, and Rome. They enjoyed baguettes beneath the Eiffel Tower, braved classic Swiss nude saunas, attended a Lumineers concert in Milan, sipped espresso and Aperol spritz in the gardens of Florence, toured vineyards across Tuscany, and marveled at the ancient ruins of Rome. On April 26, midway through their adventure, Jayme and Lars stumbled upon a quaint, authentic Swiss chalet in Stechelberg, Switzerland. During a hike that afternoon — near a rushing river beneath a glacier, waterfalls cascading down the valley walls — Lars popped the question. Jayme gasped in surprise before giving an enthusiastic “Yes!” Since that momentous trip, the couple has been eagerly planning their wedding while Jayme attends PA school and Lars continues his work as an environmental consultant. They are overjoyed to say their vows on August 15, 2026 — at their favorite place, Bridger Bowl, surrounded by the ones they love most.
