His Story

Forever Dreaming of a Couple of Forevers

Picture this...1979..okay, I'm just kidding. After I had hung up my dancing shoes for cotillion and coronation dancing, the legendary Ms. Seletta McClinton called me from college to come and dance one more time. Since I loved her so much I came over Thanksgiving break to find this timid, mean looking lady standing in the gym of Emily P. Robinson Community Center. My response to Seletta, "You want me to dance with her?" She responded, "Yes son, now go before I whoop you". I went and I am so glad that I went. On the evening of the cotillion when we danced the night away starting with Forever Dreaming and a Couple of Forevers, neither of us thought it would be the start to FOREVER for us. Traveling the back roads from Monroe to Collinston before and after cotillion practice going to Pecanland Mall and Orange Leaf and constantly having to listen to Work by Rhianna and Don't Mind by Kent Jones was true joy I loved doing with my friend. At the time she was just a friend but I think we both started to feel more but neither of us said anything. Our friendship was always there even though we drifted apart for a while. A check in here and there kept us rooted. We would always say that we would marry each other but I don't think either of us really took it serious. We finally expressed our true feelings for each other and the rest is history. 10.25.25 we'll be officially #Pottin'Spivey and I can't wait to do forever with this beauty!

Her Story

Dancing with my Prince Charming

If you had asked me back in 2015 if I ever thought I would fall in love with my cotillion escort, I would have laughed and said no. But now, it’s a different story, a beautiful love story. It all began on a day in 2015 at the Emily P. Robinson Rec Center. Ms. Seletta was teaching us choreography for our upcoming cotillion. She reassured me, “Just be patient, your partner is coming. I promise, he’s just in school.” I replied with a hopeful, “Yes, ma’am.” When he finally arrived, I thought he seemed stuck up and a bit of a know-it-all—some things never change. But when we danced together, it was like magic; he made sure I got the steps just right. Over time, we grew closer. We started going to small gatherings and spent a lot of time together. It felt like he was mine, even though we never said it out loud. I would jokingly tell people he was my husband, and we even promised each other that we would marry someday. However, as time passed, life took us in different directions. Despite this, we always found time to check in on each other. In 2022, he asked me out for Valentine's Day at Gibbon’s in Shreveport. It was a wonderful night with a genuine friend, but as the evening progressed, I felt something deeper for him, though I kept it to myself. A month later, he invited my sister and I on a trip to Dallas, where I first met Kenan. In December 2023, I met up with George and Kenan at Basil, now our favorite spot, to talk about life. To my surprise, he ended up confessing his feelings for me, feelings he had held onto all these years. On February 16th, he made a romantic gesture and asked me to be his girlfriend. With tears of joy, I said yes. June 11, 2024, a day I'll never forget, my Pumpkin turned my 26th birthday into a surprise birthday and even better surprise engagement to me by getting on one knee asking me to be his forever. I wouldn't have turned him down for nothing in the world and he knew it! Since then, we’ve been inseparable, and our love story continues to blossom.
