How We Met

Downtown Greenville

We first met in Spring 2016 at The Playwright, in downtown Greenville. Beth had a friend in the band and was there with a group of friends. I showed up in black-tie attire with some guys after leaving a formal event, and her friends nicknamed us "the penguins". We met and talked that night, but Beth was not on the market at the time, so we left it at hello. We ran into each other a few times over the next year in the hospital cafeteria. It wasn't until this past May that Beth posted a picture of her volunteering at a local farm that I reached out again. Curious what she was up to, I checked in again, and luckily my timing was better.

First Date

Artisphere weekend

Our first date was set for Friday, May 12 at our favorite Greenville event, Artisphere! I couldn't wait that long though, so I invited her over a few days earlier so we could get to know each other. We spent all night chatting on my screen porch, and I knew immediately that we would be a great match. A few days later, we spent a magical weekend exploring Artisphere together and the rest is history! Like we joked early on, we are having the wedding on Artisphere weekend, one year later. We hope you all find it as magical as we do!

The Proposal

Rock Quarry Garden

On Friday, Sept 8, I told her that we had dinner plans with some friends. She got out of work early so we headed to one of our favorite spots downtown, Jianna, for a glass of wine on the balcony overlooking Main St. On the way back home, so I could grab a dinner jacket, I suggested that we go look at Rock Quarry Garden, a beautiful park near our house. We walked and talked, and it was the perfect afternoon, and I stopped her on the stone bridge and proposed on one knee. She said yes! I had already stashed a bottle of champagne and some glasses, and we had a celebratory toast. We still had dinner plans out though, or so she thought. We drove the golf cart back home, and as we turned through the gate to the backyard, sixty of our friends and family members were there to celebrate with us, including all four of her siblings who made the trek from Boston on short notice! She was very surprised! It was an incredible weekend and one we won't ever forget.
