Hindu Tamil Wedding Ceremony – Ritual Summary 1. Vanakkam & Mappillai Alaippu (Welcome & Groom Reception) The ceremony begins with traditional Tamil music. The groom is welcomed by the bride’s family and escorted by her brother, marking the formal start of the wedding rituals. 2. Sankalpam & Aalthi Prayers are offered to Lord Ganesha to remove obstacles. Aarthi is performed to ward off negativity and formally commence the ceremony. 3. Panchakavyam Pooja A purification ritual for the groom symbolizing cleansing of the mind and body before entering married life. 4. Sumangali Prarthanai & Pallikai Thellichal Married women bless the bride for prosperity and happiness. Grains are sprouted to symbolize fertility, growth, and new beginnings. 5. Kannika Dhanam The bride is formally entrusted to the groom by her parents. The groom vows to protect and cherish her throughout their lives. 6. Koorai Saree & Thaali The sacred wedding saree and thaali (wedding necklace) are blessed by elders. The groom presents them to the bride, who changes into the koorai saree. 7. Manamagal Varugai (Bride’s Grand Entrance) The bride makes her ceremonial entrance wearing the koorai saree, carrying a garland to present to the groom. 8. Thali Kattu The groom ties the thaali around the bride’s neck while rhythmic drums are played, officially recognizing them as husband and wife. 9. Maalai Maatral (Exchange of Garlands) The couple exchange flower garlands, symbolizing mutual love, respect, and acceptance. 10. Saptapadi & Metti The couple takes seven sacred steps around the fire, each representing marital vows. The groom adorns the bride with toe rings, signifying marriage. 11. Modhiya Vilayattu (Ring Game) A playful ritual where the couple searches for a ring in water, symbolizing compatibility and light-hearted bonding. 12. Aseervatham (Final Blessings) Family and friends bless the newlyweds with flowers and rice, concluding the ceremony.
This is not a traditional Civil Wedding Ceremony, Victoria and Jathusan have updated some parts that speaks to them: ***Prelude - Guests Arriving and taking their seats behind the assigned the Wedding Party seating*** 1) Introduction by the Officiants (friend of Victoria and Jathusan - Dinusha and Liam) of Wedding Party, starting with the Groom and his parents, the rest of the Wedding Party, then Flower Girls, then Ring Bearers, then finally the Bride accompanied by her parents 2) Officiants speech to introduce the love, timeline, and history of Victoria and Jathusan 3) Officiants open the floor for Jathusan and Victoria to exchange their vows 4) Jathusan exchanges his vows 5) Victoria exchanges her vows 6) Officiants call upon both Jathusan and Victoria's parents to the front then the Ring Bearers to present the rings to the parents of Jathusan and Victoria 7) Rishi provides Jathusan's parents with Jathusan's ring and Shreeya provides Victoria's parents with Victoria's ring 8) Both parents pray over the respective rings in their own religious manors 9) Jathusan's parents provide Victoria with Jathusan's ring for Victoria to place onto Jathusan 10) Victoria's parents provide Jathusan with Victoria's ring for Jathusan to place onto Victoria 11) Officiants ask parents to sit back to their seats once everyone is seated, Officiants bless and announce Jathusan and Victoria married and "Kiss the Bride" 12) Recessional music plays and Victoria & Jathusan exit first, followed by their parents, then the remaining of the Wedding Party ***From here, guests can exit the Wedding Ceremony and transition to the Cocktail Hour***
