Pennekamp encompasses 70 nautical square miles and offers snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking, and hiking! Rachel recommends snorkeling at the beach over the 18th century mock shipwreck established and managed by Indiana University's Center for Underwater Science. For those of you who prefer to keep dry, check out their glass bottom boat tours!
As a program, Island Dolphin Care provides physical, emotional, and educational aid to adults and children with special needs via a little thing called dolphin therapy. Guided tours are available at Island Dolphin Care, but you have to pre-schedule them if you want to add a day of fun at the facility to your Key Largo, Florida travel plans.
This is Rachel's ultimate go-to for a stacked bloody mary! Bring a dollar bill marked with your name to staple to the restaurant structure! You can eat some delicious fresh seafood, rent some parasails or jet-skis to head out on the waves, shop in the wide-ranging stalls of the open-air market, or buy some fish to bring back to your residence with you. They also offer the opportunity to feed the tarpon. However, the pelican are extremely aggressive and have no fear when it comes to stealing your fish! We recently visited and recommend you stick to enjoying lunch and visiting the local shops instead.
If you don't visit the brewery itself, we recommend ordering their beer at local spots. Try Jason's favorite Iguana Bait brew or Rachel's fav Honey Bottomed Blonde! It is home to more than 20 different kinds of beers and is well-known for innovative flavors inspired by island living. The beers are distributed across the Keys and have become well-known/available at most Largo bars.
