They both swiped right! Jason loved that EJ called herself a ‘recovering perfectionist’. EJ was intrigued by Jason’s claim of being a ‘great storyteller’. After an initial flurry of messages, EJ got a gig and disappeared. A few weeks later, Jason was cleaning out his inbox and messaged her the standard ‘last try’ cut & paste: "Still out there..? 😘" which - to his amazement - EJ found romantic. Their first date was in Park Slope on July 20, 2018 at a place neither of them can remember. They hit it off right away, and - despite Jason’s classic oversharing - EJ was hooked and planted a kiss on him at the end of the night to let him know just that. For Date #2, they went to Coney Island where he introduced her to the magic of Nathan’s hot dogs and did NOT try to make out with her on the Wonder Wheel #perfectgentleman. On the drive back, he spotted a jazz band playing standards in a little park next to the Brooklyn Museum. He double-parked, they checked out the scene, he asked her to dance, and it was magic! Thanks, Bumble! Exactly 2 years later, while quarantining together 24/7 and designing a ring in secret, Jason took EJ to that same park to ask her to dance again. This time, he had a musician waiting, along with a hidden photographer, a bottle of champagne and goblets. He explained the live music was an anniversary present and they started dancing. But during Etta James’ “At Last”, Jason launched into some rambling, verbose romantic commentary, then shocked EJ by getting down on his good knee and asking the magic question. She said YES, grabbed the ring, they cracked the bubbly, took some euphoric 'in the moment' pics, and here we all are! The ‘surprise proposal saga’ is actually a fun story with many twists and turns, so if you have a few hours to kill or trouble sleeping, just ask Jason about it and he'll be glad to spare no detail. 😉 Fun fact: our wedding day will be exactly one year, one month and one day after the proposal! 7/20/20 —> 8/21/21
