The Great Northern Catskills of Greene County are home to many treasures – from the stunning natural beauty of the landscape to the rich literary and artistic heritage immortalized by Thomas Cole and Washington Irving. Perhaps the crowning jewel is the highest cascading waterfall in New York State – Kaaterskill Falls. Dropping in two tiers over 260 feet, Kaaterskill Falls has been one of the region's most popular destinations for centuries.
Want to sneak off to a nearby trendy diner with great food and cocktails? Built in 1962 and moved to the Catskills in the early 80s, the Phoenicia Diner has a long history of serving customers who are drawn to the Catskill’s natural beauty. The prior owners nurtured the Diner and its customers for nearly 30 years. Current owner, Mike Cioffi, continues that tradition by offering residents, weekenders and visitors fresh food sourced from Catskills and Hudson Valley farms when available. Our menu is carefully crafted to offer traditional diner favorites, sometimes with a modern twist, using seasonal and local fresh ingredients.
The Catskills are home to many local farms, check out this site for any that tickle your fancy! One that stands out to us, is the Gunhouse Hill Alpaca Farm where you can visit these cute critters and purchase their luxurious yarn.
Nestled in the Catskill Mountains, Mount Tremper Arts (MTA) is an artist-founded laboratory space dedicated to supporting artists in the creation and presentation of new works of contemporary art. Founded in 2008 by visual artist Mathew Pokoik and choreographer Aynsley Vandenbroucke, MTA cultivates generative artistic communities while making experimental contemporary art accessible to its diverse local community. As the New York Times recently wrote: “[MTA] has become a quietly thriving offshoot of the city’s contemporary performance world: a magnet for adventurous urban artists and a devoted local audience.”
Founded in 2009, Rosemary Farm Sanctuary is a 501(c)3 non-profit equine rescue in the Catskill Mountains (Delaware County). Home to more than 80 horses (and a donkey and a mule) our mission is to rescue horses in dire need, and protect them for life. Many are saved from slaughter, neglect or abuse; others have simply run out of options. Most have been passed from owner to owner, never knowing a herd or consistency. When they arrive here, they are home.
