Mt Ruapehu – The Forbidden Pool with Gollum If you drive a bit south from Hobbiton, you’ll reach Mt Ruapehu, which is usually crowded with skiers during the winter months. However, it should be quieter and less touristy when you visit. The waterfall is a short walk from Whakapapa Village (pronounced "Fa-ka-pa-pa"). Just search for Tawhai Falls on Google Maps to find it easily.
