Jas and AJ met in the winter of 2012 in the romantic backdrop of Madison Union... ok, maybe not the most romantic backdrop. It was a weekly Latin Dance Club gathering and Jas' roommate and friend, Katelyn, pulled her aside and declared "you must dance with this guy." Moments later, Jas and AJ were discussing interests and world adventures while dancing under the fluorescent lights. It would take 4 years before they decided to date and 9 until Jas said "yes" to marrying him, but it all started with that dance. They have continued to share dancing, whether it be a tango in front of the Eiffel Tower or swing dancing in front of the airport Starbucks, and plan to always save the last dance for each other.
AJ surprised Jas with a trip to one of her favorite destinations, Maine in April 2021. The combination of COVID precaution and (unexpected) off-season timing resulted in primarily isolated adventures (perfect for Jas' introverted self). Their first hike was in Baxter state park on April 23rd. After getting lost a handful of times, they stumbled upon a trail called "Blueberry Ledges" and decided to check it out. The trail ended at this beautiful river cascading over these boulders. AJ makes fun of Jas for this, but she loves rocks (preferring mountainous terrain over beaches any day). AJ decided it would be the perfect location to propose, so he pulled out the ring and narrowly avoided stepping right in the water as he got down on one knee. He had a whole speech in mind, but nerves got to him, so he promptly declared "I got your parent's approval and will you marry me?" She of course said yes, but then asked him to tell her the rest of the planned proposal on the walk down. Lack of reception delayed the spreading of the news, but AJ couldn't hold back his excitement, so he told the first person he could - the grocery clerk. They drove back to their lodge at NEOC and sat in front of the fireplace, reminiscing on the years that brought them there and the excitement of a lifetime to come.
