Jared took me to the Oklahoma Aquarium. His cover story was that we were going to have our families meet each other for the very first time and I fell for it. I dressed up and off we went. The aquarium had just opened a new coral reef display. Every day at 3:30 divers would drop in to feed the fish and scrub down the display. He seemed really excited about this and said that we absolutely had to be there. So, I stood there watching the divers drop into the water and something started coming down very slowly right by the glass. Gradually a sign was lowered into view and on it was written "Miriam, of all the fish in the sea you're the only one for me. Love, Jared" I turned around and both of our families were standing behind him, while he was on one knee. A beautiful banner with pictures of us throughout the past year was held by my sisters over his head. He said, very simply "Miriam, will you marry me?" And I said.... yes. The End
The story of how Jared and I met is pretty uninteresting. But only about a week and three dates later we could tell we were serious about one another. He picked me up from church one Sunday and we went out for steak. Over lunch his mother came into the conversation. He talked about how much she influences him, how much he admires her, how strong she is, and how much he loves her. Apparently, I’m a sucker for that kind of thing. I could feel myself falling for him. After that we went to a coffee shop in downtown Tulsa and just talked for a few hours. I don’t remember what our conversation was about, I just remember we both had a good time and it was the first time I held his hand. It was a little chilly, but we decided we would walk to the Center of the Universe anyway. While we were there, I told him a few funny stories I knew about the Center of the Universe and got to laughing really hard and I’m pretty sure I snorted. But he still took me by the hand looked into my eyes and said, “this is going so well, will you please be my girlfriend?” I can’t remember for sure but I’m pretty sure I said, “I thought I already was?” To finish off what was already a perfect date, my BOYFRIEND took me to the Lantern Festival for the first time, which I was super excited about! The event itself was beautiful but it was more beautiful to us because something amazing had begun. The End.
