We met in middle school but didn't really know each other until High School. Paths crossed and our friendship developed as both our group of friends would hang out together through out High School.
After years of losing touch after high school, we reconnected at a small get together with friends. It was a fun night out at Red Lion in Waikiki! After that night, we started to keep in touch and continued to hang out with all our friends. As weeks went on, months even, we found ourselves talking to each other more and more. Eventually, Ed had the courage to ask if I wanted to go to the movies. On the flip side of things, I did not think it was a "date". I did briefly think about it, but when you are friends for such a long time, there is a line that you don't really cross until you know it could possibly work, lol. Ed picked me up to go to the movies and it wasn't until later that evening I realized and thought to myself, "Umm... I think this is a date?!" On December 3, 2008 we made it "official". The #NellyAndEd love story begun. I don't think we will ever forget the looks and reactions of our friends when they realized we were an actual couple. We think it took some time for them to see it and once it clicked, they were just as shocked as we both were. Who knew! Almost a decade later after high school, we ended up together and now, another decade later, we are finally getting married! P.S. We forgot what movie we watched! LOL
Ed knew that I wanted this moment to be documented, whenever it happened. Now residing in Arizona, he had no idea how he would accomplish that. A trip to San Diego was planned for a while, without hard set plans. After having the ring for a few months he thought that would be the best time because my bestie Risse would be there. The night prior to the proposal, it was suggested by a friend that we go to a "winery" at Seaport Village after our early dinner to see the sunset while having some wine. That sounded like a great plan because we were really missing ocean views so quickly agreed. On Saturday, August 24, 2019, during dinner in little Italy, I noticed that Ed got quiet... really quick. He just kept enjoying his drinks. Risse silently started taking video of Ed throughout dinner and he was so nervous! After dinner, Ed was rushing to Seaport Village and kept mentioning how the sun was going down. Even said "Oh, should be nice at sunset.. by the water... right?" On the way he missed a turn, freaked out, then couldn't find parking, turned around like 5 times. Mentioned "it's sunset already!!"... trying to beat the time, lol. He gave up and finally parked in Valet parking. While walking to meet our friends, his palms started to get sweaty. That is when I really knew something was odd. We get next to the water and start to take sunset pictures. Risse tells me, "Nel step right here" "Ed stay right there". Little did I know, Ed was going down on one knee behind me. Risse then tell's me to turn around... ... that was the moment he asked me to marry him!
