Flight
Milan Malpensa (MXP): The largest international airport and usually the most convenient for long-haul flights. Milan Linate (LIN): A smaller airport closer to the city center, we noticed Lufthansa flies into here from Denver and is cheaper than MXP. Bergamo (BGY): Often used by budget airlines (like Ryanair). Note that this requires a bus to Milan before catching the train, or a longer drive.

Train
The train is the most scenic, efficient, and reliable way to reach Varenna (and most of Italy!), taking ~1hr. From the train station, the Villa and other lodging are within a few minutes' walk. The Route: You will need to get to Milano Centrale station. -From Malpensa: Take the Malpensa Express train directly to Milano Centrale. -From Linate: Take a quick taxi or the Linate Shuttle bus to Milano Centrale. Destination: Look for trains heading toward Tirano or Sondrio. Your stop is Varenna-Esino. The journey takes about 1 hour. Tickets & Reservations: * Book in Advance: You can buy tickets on the Trenitalia website (linked above) or via the Trenitalia app. Validation: If you buy a physical paper ticket at the station, you must validate it in the small yellow or green machines on the platform before boarding to avoid a fine. Digital tickets do not need validation.
Hotel
We've rented Villa Stupenda September 13th-16th. We'd love for you to view this as a central area for spending time together each day, but unfortunately we aren't able to fit everyone. :( There are multiple hotels and rentals around Varenna and Bellano, and you can walk to most restaurants, grocery stores, and the train station. We are also renting a car and are more than happy to drive you anywhere needed.
