Generally, no! The train system is highly reliable and efficient for getting anywhere within the country. Parking is also often limited within most larger cities. Within Varenna for the wedding, we are happy to drive you anywhere needed. For travel within/across Lake Como, people often use water taxis! However, if you are staying in Italy beyond the wedding and would like to rent a car: All airports have major rental agencies (Hertz, Avis, Sixt, etc.). Requirements: To rent a car in Italy, non-EU citizens must have a valid driver’s license from their home country plus an International Driving Permit (IDP). You can easily get an IDP at a local AAA office before you leave or online. The Drive: The drive from Milan to Varenna takes about 1.5 hours via the SS36 highway.
Given the long flight, we would love for you to join us September 13th-16th. - Sunday will be the time for arriving, settling in, and exploring the local towns. - On Monday, we are planning to sightsee the surrounding areas more, including taking a water taxi to historic sites. In the evening, everyone will convene at Villa Stupenda for the rehearsal dinner. - Tuesday, you'll have the morning and early afternoon free before the Wedding events begin.
