Downtown Fredericksburg is full of local trinket shops, tasting rooms, restaurants, historic buildings, and German architecture. It's a great place to spend an afternoon strolling, grabbing a drink, shopping for souvenirs, and soaking in Texas charm. We love the Old German Bakery & Restaurant for some sweet iced tea and pancakes!
If you enjoy the outdoors like us, consider hiking at Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, a massive pink granite dome (its not that pink, fyi) just outside town that's popular for wildlife, hiking, and rock-climbing. There's over 8 miles of trails, and one-of-a-kind views of hill country terrain!
The region is home to dozens of wineries along the famous Texas Hill Country Wine Trail. Many offer tastings, tours, and beautiful vineyard views if you want to get the party started! We'll share some of our favorites soon!
Fredericksburg has some strong German roots, being founded in 1846 by German immigrants. You can see the influence today in its architecture, food, and local wineries. Some notable historic sites: National Museum of the Pacific War (one of the best WWII museums in the US); Pioneer Museum (includes a dozen 19th century buildings, including an old Sunday school); Coffee Mill Church; and the National Historic District (original preserved 19th century homes).
