Travel Note
The closest large international airport is Fiumicino in Rome, Italy (FCO). There is a smaller international airport, should you be traveling around Europe, that is closer in Pescara (PSR). Vasto is approximately 45 minutes from Ortona, which is Fabio’s hometown. We will be staying in Ortona, until the night before the wedding, and will be back in Ortona the day after. We’d love to spend time with you there too. There are three main options for transportation from Rome to Ortona/Vasto: 1. Car Rentals: this would be our main recommendation, as it will give you the freedom to tour around Vasto & Ortona. Small tip: most rental cars are manual in Italy. Automatic are available, but you’ll just need to make sure this is what you book, to ensure there is one available upon your arrival. Both airports have car rentals on property. The drive is simple, and approximately 3 hours, with plenty of gas stations/autogrills on the way! If you haven’t been to Italy, these are not your average gas stations and the food is FRESH & GOOD! 2. Buses: there are multiple companies that offer this option. Buses can be anywhere between 3.5 to 6 hrs. Buses have bathrooms and wifi! If you choose buses, please note that Ortona does not have taxis or Uber. Vasto has taxis that you will call to reserve or book online. No Uber there either yet! Here are a few companies that we have used (there are several more that offer the same routes and services): www.prontobusitalia.it www.dicarlobus.com www.flixbus.com 3. Trains: this would be a more complicated option, as you will need to transfer to the bus terminal from the airport, and use taxis in Vasto after arrival. Here is a website to view options though, if this is your preference: www.rome2rio.com Could be fun, especially if you’re traveling to see any other cities in Italy!
Travel Note
Unlike the US, hotels do not offer blocks for weddings or discounted group rates, however we do have recommendations. Please note that most hotels in Ortona and Vasto are not yet listing their rooms online. Usually, they list around 6 months in advance. However, once you choose a hotel, it is best to call to make the reservation rather than waiting for them to open online. Hotels in Ortona: Hotel Mara: this hotel is literally on the beach! This is the same beach that we spend the month of August each summer. It has a pool, restaurant etc. It is located approximately 15 minutes from downtown Ortona. Here is that website: www.hotelmara.it Torre Della Loggia: This hotel is located in the heart of Ortona, right next to the castle. www.toredellaloggia.it Licia B&B: It’s a little more simple, but it is clean, well-kept and inside Ortona. www.liciabeb.it 4Strade: located a few minutes outside of town, close to Kitchenette. http://www.hotel4strade.it (you can call & say you are coming for our wedding, or let us know and we can contact the hotel for you. They have 10 rooms reserved for our guests.) There are a large number of Airbnb’s in Ortona and Vasto, ranging from 1 person to 20. If you find one you are interested in, please let us know if you want info on where it is located compared to downtown Ortona and the beach. Hotels in Vasto: For those of you interested in staying in Vasto, here are a few hotel options, although there are several more as Vasto is considerably larger than Ortona: Hotel Principe: www.hotelprincipevasto.it Hotel Sporting: www.hotelsportingvasto.it Hotel Excelsior: www.hotelexcelsiorvasto.com Vasto also has a large selection of Airbnb’s too. We are in the process of looking into hiring buses for those of you staying in Ortona to get to & from the wedding venue. Stay tuned if you choose to book in Ortona!
