Flight
This is the closest airport to Nosara and we recommend this opposed to flying into San Jose. From LIR to Nosara it is about a 3 hour car ride... buckle up the ride can be bumpy. Don't worry it goes fast and the Costa Rican country side is beautiful. If you are not planning on renting a car, "Gypsea Cab" (see travel note) is a great taxi service from LIR to Nosara.
Rental Car
A car is not needed in Nosara but if you are one that likes to explore it may be a good idea. It is helpful for families with little ones. If you choose to rent a car: 1.) It is smart to reserve in advance, they can fully book and not have options upon arrival. Also, rates always seem cheap online, in CR they charge additional $ for CR insurance. 2.) Navigating to Nosara from LIR can be challenging so get navigation. There are very few road signs, lights and markers. 3.) If your plane lands at night and you are driving we recommend you staying at the nearby Hilton and drive in the daylight. 4.) Don't leave valuables of any kind in car. Rule of Thumb: Safer to leave nothing in car and keep unlocked.
Travel Note
We highly recommend this taxi service when traveling from LIR to Nosara, especially for night flights! They are safe, reliable and reasonably priced. If groups are traveling together it is great to book a private shuttle! We will be looking out for overlapping flight arrivals to help coordinate this amongst the wedding crew!
Flight
We have no experience with this small flight but it definitely is a quicker route from LIR Airport to Nosara than driving. Note: These small planes freak us out a bit ...but people take them everyday. Also, Nosara Airport is in the central area of Nosara Town, we recommend contacting Gypsea Cab for pickup to get you to where you are staying.
House Or Rental
We would love to help you find the perfect spot so please be in touch with us about where you are thinking of staying! Since we have been to Nosara before we have a good idea of where certain spots are in relation to the beaches, town etc. Nosara is divided mainly by two beaches: Playa Pelada and Playa Guiones. Our family will be staying in North Playa Pelada. No matter which beach end you stay at it will be great! ** HINT: Playa means Beach in Spanish. Playa Pelada is more of the local zone and low key vibe. Playa Guiones is closer to more night life options, shops and the main surfing beach.
Travel Note
While most places accept credit cards and many places accept US Dollars it is good to have some local cash currency on hand (Calones) $1 to 566 Calones. The exchange rate will most likely be higher at the airport, so you can wait to go to the local bank or use the ATM. HINT: Make travel Notes on your Credit/Debit Cards
Travel Note
Another Great Option... these look super fun for getting around... not long excursions. They cost almost same or more than a car rentals, just to keep in mind.
