Mariel and James (both 15 years old) met in the summer of 2006. James was riding his mongoose bike passed Mariel’s house when he noticed she had a basketball hoop in front. He asked her if she had a basketball and from that moment it was the beginning of something special. James and Mariel kept in touch via “screen names” back when sidekicks were in. Little did they know they were looking at the future Mr. & Mrs. Ockimey. Once the summer of 2006 was over the communication disappeared. UNTIL…
Long story short…I was scrolling on Instagram and my good friend Henoc (The Best Man) posted a picture of him and someone that looked familiar to me. I wrote on Henoc’s picture “is that James?”. (Little did I know Henoc and James were best friend’s). He asked James if he knew me (which he did) and we rekindled from that very moment. Henoc kept telling each of us that we would be a great couple and we just wasn’t sure…but he was right! I will forever be thankful for that Instagram moment regardless of how James “thinks” it happened.
Soooo …my brother Henoc and I made a video, and Mariel decided to leave a public comment on Henoc's page saying “IS THAT JAMES?” feening for your boy! So Henoc was like “yo you know Mariel?”, and I said “yeah”. So, I slid in her DM (direct message). We started chatting, then she pulled the “here is my number this IG messaging is annoying”. She stood me up for about a month, I quit on her, almost blocked and deleted her number. Maybe two weeks after that, I get a random text like “ Hey!” (Lowkey I am a clown) I remembered part of her number, so I responded, “wow what did I do to deserve this text!”. That same night we finally met up and we haven’t left each other’s side since!
On this day, James and Mariel were having their gender reveal, after they popped the balloon (IT WAS A BOY) James was getting ready to thank everyone for coming and at that moment he got down on one knee with Cameron by his side and proposed. Mariel obviously said YES!
Mariel & James legally got married at the courthouse with their families there to witness. But they are even more excited to be celebrating their symbolic wedding with you! See you in Jamaica!
