We acknowledge that we celebrate with all of you on land that is the traditional homeland, past and present, of tribes in the Wabanaki Confederacy. We recognize and honor the current tribes who comprise the Confederacy – the Penobscot, the Passmaquoddy, the Maliseets, and the Mi’kmaq – who have stewarded this land throughout the generations. We acknowledge the Owascoag people who once lived in what is now Scarborough. We respect the traditional values of these Tribes and support their efforts for land and water protection and restoration. In offering this land acknowledgment, we affirm indigenous sovereignty, history, and experiences. Adapted from the Scarborough Public Library
We met in college through a mutual friend. It was happenstance, and our love grew throughout college and graduate school through adventures in Iowa, Chicago, New Jersey, New York City, and beyond. Despite several periods of time living miles away from each other, we continued to weave our two lives together, adopting four cats, developing friendships that now find us with people we love all across the country and even the globe, and eventually landing in Maine. After being together for eight years, we became engaged while at Loon Lake in New York's Adirondack Mountains on November 29th, 2021 with the view below. A little over a year ago, we moved to Maine which has truly welcomed us and connected our love for the outdoors, ocean, community, and the arts. We could not think of any other way to celebrate our special day than along the sea coast with all of you in the place we now call home.
