Native Americans first came here during the Paleo-Indian period to hunt Ice Age mammals. Several cultures occupied this land for thousands of years, each creating their own history here. The Mississippian culture arrived here around 900CE and constructed mounds for the elite members of their society. Today the mounds remain for all to see and explore.
Looking for something fun to do with the kids? The Museum of Arts and Sciences contains lots of hands on activities for the kiddos, a small zoo, a planetarium, and a it features a fossilized whale said to be more than 40 million years old!
Pick your brain in one of the best escape rooms in Georgia! The Situation Room, location just a few blocks from the wedding venue, has great options for small and large groups. Kaitlin planned a surprise birthday party for Jamie here one year! Their group consisted of engineers, lawyers, and technology consultants, and they barely escaped with only 15 seconds left. The Allman Brothers Museum, also known as The Big House, is the original home of the brothers, their families, and various friends from 1970 to 1973. The Big House contains a large collection of guitars, bass, keyboards, drums, and other unique memorabilia that belong to the band. The Big House is actually home to the largest collection of ABB memorabilia in the world!
The Georgia Sports Hall of Fame and Museum in Macon, Georgia, is the country’s largest state sports museum. The 43,000 square feet state-of-the-art museum houses over 3,000 artifacts. From the old style ticket booths to the brick columns in the rotunda and special lighting, the museum invites visitors to experience the history of sports in Georgia with more than 14,000 square feet of high-energy exhibit space and a Hall of Fame corridor that honors the over 400 inductees.
Calling all Alpha Delta Pi's and Phi Mu's! During your stay in Macon, take a tour of the Founders’ parlors of the Adelphean (ΑΔΙΙ) and Philomathean (ΦΜ) societies, recreated from Wesleyan College, where they began in 1851 and 1852. The Cannonball House, named for damage sustained during the War Between the States, was built in 1853 as a planter’s townhouse. he Cannonball House is devoted to acquiring, conserving, interpreting, and exhibiting artifacts reflecting Georgia’s heritage from the antebellum through reconstruction eras.
