We met at Dallastown Middle School. We did not have any classes together that we recall. However, one day James was following me up a set of stairs and I turned around and said to him, “Hey, aren’t you that annoying kid?” And James responded by grabbing his chest and saying, “Ow, my feelings”. In that moment middle-school-Jubi knew… this guy knows how to take an insult, maybe he’s cooler than I thought. In middle school James opinion of me at the time was that I was tough and always had an attitude because I always wanted to fight. All jokes aside, James thought I was cool but he didn’t know me very well other than the interaction I outlined earlier. Later on in high school, James and I got pretty close during freshman and sophomore year. We would hangout in the halls before first bell. He would rest his arm on my shoulder and tell me I was the perfect height. At that time, he would call me “bud”. James remembers routinely meeting me in the mornings, and it was refreshing to hang out with a girl instead of just his guy friends all the time. During summer break of 9th and 10th grade James and I would Skype for hours. Our conversation was very easy. Neither of us remember any other specifics of this period but we agree that this is the foundation of our friendship that has continued to grow since.
