Chris and I actually met while I was going to nursing school four years ago. I was supposed to go to nursing school in Lubbock, and at the last minute I decided to save money and obtain my degree closer to my home town at a community college in Clovis, NM. At the time, Chris had been stationed at Cannon AFB as an EOD technician for three years. He was applying for every deployment, and opportunity to change bases but despite every effort, he stayed in Clovis. On the first night we met he came to my rescue after a night out and slept on the floor beside the couch I was on to make sure I was safe and taken care of (and you should know nothing much has changed since then). I always joked that he was my "knight in shining armor" because he saved me that night; little did I know just how true that statement would be. Over the years we became close friends that would go months on end without speaking, but always pick up right where we left off. We both, unbeknownst to us, fought how we felt for three years, but fate just kept bringing us back together. Last year, we both ended up walking away from everything we knew so that we could follow our hearts to each other. Here we are, a little over one year after making the best decisions of our lives, planning to celebrate the love we found despite all odds.
