If you are planning on staying on the east coast for awhile, we've marked some of our favorite spots around the state that you may want to explore. From Washington DC to some of our favorite restaurants and bars, we're excited to show you Virginia and recommend different places, near and far, for you and your whole family to enjoy! If you're looking for an outdoor experience, here are a list of trails near Susan, VA that are part of the Mathews Blueways Water Trails System. Located near the shore, no matter where you go, you are destined to see a feathered or furry friend!

A 45 minute drive from Susan, VA will land you in the Historic Triangle, and at the spot that nearly ended the American Revolutionary War. If you are interested in shopping along the waterfront, visiting the beach (our favorite), singing along to Hamilton, or learning more about our nation's history, then visit Yorktown!

Williamsburg

You can immerse yourself in living history by visiting Colonial Williamsburg--located an hour away from Susan, VA--where everyone lives and acts as if they are in the 18th century. Meet the colonial inhabitants, shop in Merchant Square, drink at some local taverns, and experience what life in the colony was like.

An hour drive from Susan will land you at one of the most popular amusement parks in the country. With a variety of rides and craft beers, there is something for everyone to enjoy at Busch Gardens. Be forewarned, October is dedicated to the fall event Howl-O-Scream, where you can find a collection of haunted houses, scare zones, escape rooms, and live shows. During the day, the park is kid-friendly; however, once night hits, fear awaits!

Interested in doing an escape room? Visit Jake's favorite place, Escape Room RVA, to test your abilities and complete a series of puzzles! Located an hour and a half away from Susan, this is a perfect place to go if you plan on visiting Richmond for a day. By far the BEST escape room you will ever experience!

This small street in downtown Richmond is home to many eccentric shops filled with fun for the family. Go to the Can-Can for brunch, delight in the sweet treats available in the many bakeries and candy shops, and find things to play with in One Eyed Jacques and World of Mirth. Looking for lunch or dinner? Grab a table at Galaxy Diner or kick back for a slice at Mellow Mushroom.

Belle Isle

Belle Isle is an outdoor park with many sites to visit. Located on the James River, you can visit Hollywood Cemetery (where many of our nation's presidents are buried), take a stroll on the foot bridge over the James, visit historic sites, and do some shopping along the Canal Walk.

If you're looking for a fun night out, "Scott's Addition," located in downtown Richmond, is full of bars, breweries, and restaurants. Our favorite place to go is The Circuit, where you can play a variety of retro games and beer and wine are on tap, self serve, and charged by the ounce (awesome for tasting before buying a full glass!) After that, go to the Bingo Beer Co. for drinks, games, and the best pretzels you will ever have. And, if you're feeling up for it, visit the GWARbar, inspired by the famous metal band, GWAR!

For the guests who want a relaxing beach getaway, Virginia Beach is just under a two hour drive from Susan, Virginia. Shop along the boardwalk, visit the King Neptune statue located right on the oceanfront, swim and surf, enjoy live music, and eat some great local cuisines!
