Our love story began on a cold, snowy night in Aspen, Colorado, at a lively little place called The Red Onion. It was February 2, 2018, and the anticipation in the air was electric—partly because of the snow swirling outside, but mostly because we were all there for an STS9 show later that evening. Neither of us could have imagined how that night would change our lives forever. Before the show, I was brought to The Red Onion by some mutual friends, for a pre-show snack. Where I encountered Jake for the first time. Within minutes of meeting each other, everyone else seemed to fade into the background. As we discussed our shared love for music, dancing and FUN, it became very clear that there was something special happening that night, right before our eyes. It felt like magic swirling in the air, meeting someone who felt like home, a kindred spirit with a similar soul. We then left to stand in line at Belly Up, in the winter chill of Aspen, a full hour before doors opened for the show. Jake recalls seeing Cassie laughing and smiling. There was something about her energy that made the whole night feel warmer. As we learned more about one another, the more enthralled we became. I, of course, insisted on being front row for the show, whereas Jake enjoyed being a bit further back from the action. We left Aspen that weekend with our hearts so full, and a sense that we would be seeing much more of each other in the future, but neither of us could have guessed where this story would end up. Little did we know that this would be the start of our greatest adventure yet. Fast forward a year of dancing around one another, Jake invited Cassie to come to Chicago for another STS9 show over Valentine’s Day at the House of Blues. After a weekend of beautiful music, laughter and embracing one another, Cassie told Jake, after several glasses of champagne, “YOU ARE MINE NOW”... and the rest is history. Looking back it almost feels surreal, all the twists and turns, and several chance encounters that led us fully into each other’s lives. Many years later, in Breckenridge on Christmas Eve, at the top of Red Mountain trail behind the Hatt Family home, in nearly zero degree weather, Jake dropped down to one knee to ask a life altering question and jokingly Cassie said, “NOW, YOU’RE REALLY MINE”....after a resounding YES, of course, I agreed to marry my soulmate, the love of my life. And ever since then, every concert, every adventure, and every day has been better because we’re in it together, forever.
